I've stumbled across this video, which shows some of the ins and outs of the industry, specifically the printing side. Some of the things spoken about I already knew about but the one thing I took away from this is needing to specify what paper you'd like your design on, and I found out some interesting stuff;
There are 3 types of paper usually;
Uncoated Paper - Has quite a natural feeling accompanied by a texture, similar to printer paper but of better quality and quite usual to be seen in poster production, known for holding ink really well and for having the widest array of colours available.
Coated paper - This type of paper is available in a matte, glossy, satin or silk finish, prints out great but tends to only be available in white and has a more limited array of colours compared to uncoated paper, still gets the job done for holding ink and having images print out at good quality.
Synthetic Paper - What makes this different from the other two categories is the fact that it is made out of plastic fibres, making it extremely durable (for paper standards anyway) and also resistant to bending and scrunching up, it can be waterproof and even solvent-proof, usually the way to go for paper that you will know will be exposed to more extreme environments and especially if intended to be reused.
It's really interesting finding out stuff like this and the video proved itself quite educational in my case. I'll leave it below as it is worth a watch.
